Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Emmanuel MacLaren-Yansouni (“Gearhound,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use gearhound.org and related services (the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

• Account information. Your email address, used for passwordless (magic-link) sign-in and to deliver the alerts you ask for.
• Your watches. The plain-English gear descriptions you enter and the structured criteria we derive from them (category, price, size, brand, etc.).
• Billing information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe. We receive a customer reference and subscription status from Stripe — we never see or store your full card details.
• Usage & device data. Standard server logs and, if enabled, privacy- friendly analytics (pages viewed, approximate region, device/browser type).
• Cookies. A strictly-necessary cookie keeps you signed in. See our Cookie Policy.

How we use your information

• Operate the Service — match your watches against deals and send the alerts you request.
• Send transactional email (sign-in links, deal alerts, digests you opted into, billing).
• Process and manage subscriptions.
• Maintain security, prevent abuse, and debug.
• Understand and improve how the Service is used.

Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (running your account and watches), consent (optional digest emails; non-essential cookies if introduced), and legitimate interests (securing and improving the Service). You can withdraw consent at any time.

How your watch text is processed

To turn your plain-English watch into structured criteria, the text you enter may be sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) for parsing. Don’t include sensitive personal information in watch descriptions.

Service providers we share with

We share information only with providers that help us run the Service:

• Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
• Supabase — database and authentication.
• Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions.
• Resend — delivery of transactional and alert emails.
• Anthropic — parsing your watch descriptions (see above).
• Affiliate networks (e.g. AvantLink) — to attribute purchases you make via our links so we may earn a commission.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links. If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. When you click a deal you leave Gearhound and the retailer’s own privacy policy and terms apply to your purchase.

International transfers

Our providers are largely based in the United States, so your information may be processed outside your country, including in the US. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Data retention

We keep account and watch data while your account is active. Delete your watches at any time from your account, or email us to delete your account entirely. We may retain limited records where required for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise them, email privacy@gearhound.org. EEA/UK users may also complain to their local data-protection authority.

Security

We use reputable processors and reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
